Instructions for Creating a Continent:
Using the information from the land and water lesson and prior knowledge you are going to create your own continent.
The following is required as a grade for your continent:
- Your map must have a compass rose
- Your latitude and longitude must be labeled in increments of 10 degrees. If your continent is located near the equator, Tropic of cancer, Tropic of Capricorn, Arctic Circle, or Antarctica, these also must be labeled on your map.
- You must include at least five different physical features on your map. All physical features on your continent must be labeled with the name you choose.
- You must include a legend (map key) with symbols for water, highlands, and lowlands.
- You must place five principal cities on your map.
- You will then explain in writing, why you placed each city where you did. On the back of your map or typed on separate sheet of paper you will answer the following question for each city: What factors affected you decision to place your city where you did? (Keep in mind access to water, natural resources, transportation, and communication) To receive full credit you should have a short paragraph written for each city.
